Dry Separation of Kernel & Shell

MPOB in collaboration with Hur Far  Engineering Works Sdn Bhd (HFEWSB), and Felda Palm Industries (FPI) has successfully commissioned  put in operation since January 2013, a dry separation system comprising   five stage winnowing columns at Air Tawar POM Johor (FELDA).

Advantages

-Zero effluent discharge from kernel recovery plant – No treatment cost of the effluent.

-Increment in the Kernel Extraction Rate (KER) - (between  0.3 – 0.6%)

-Reduction in total  kernel losses (0.1 – 0.3% to FFB)

-Reduction in the overall operational costs: elimination of claybath or hydrocyclone (zero  clay  consumption)

-Low maintenance cost- RM 0.12/tonne FFB processed

-Generates additional income through sales of more dry shell for fuel
