Hydrocarbon Fuel from Palm

The depletion in the world petroleum reserves, the uncertainty in the petroleum supply due to political and economical reasons, growing environmental awareness and increasing energy consumption have stimulated the search for alternative sources for petroleum-based fuels.

Currently, green fuels are being sought for repalcing the existing petroleum-based fuels. Several alternatives have been considered for this purpose. For feasible replacement of the existing petroluem-based fuels such alternatives must be compatible with the quality requirement of existing engines such as they must have sufficient energy content and similar performance and they must also be compatible with all the materials used in engine's fuel system.

The current study focuses on producing hydrocarbon fuels from palm and palm products and to evaluate its use as petroleum fuel subtitutes.

Objective

  • To produce hydrocarbon through hydrogenation, Hydrodeoxygenation, hydrodecarboxylation or hydrocracking process.

  • To conduct evaluation of the fuel properties of various hydrocarbons produced.
